Derailleur hangers (also known as a mech hanger, mech dropout, road bike hanger, cast hanger, mountain bike hanger and hanger dropout) are a helpful piece of metal that is attached to the rear frame of a bike. The main job of a derailleur is to adsorb any strain, resulting in either snapping or bending to protect the frame of the bike.
