In 2015, Joe started Starling Cycles with his love of mountain biking, engineering, and his expertise from the aerospace industry. Five years on, Starling Cycles has gone from strength to strength in designing and building bespoke but uncomplicated and therefore durable bikes.

Not only do Starling Cycles create bikes with speed, endurance, and reliability, they are incredibly enjoyable to ride. Starling Cycles believes that a reliable single pivot with a linear leverage ratio is the answer to a bike that riders can quickly jump onto, understand, and start riding.

Here at BETD, we’re proud to be in collaboration with and supporting Starling Cycles. This fantastic brand builds custom steel mountain bike frames here in Bristol, UK and our Middleburn cranks and chainrings are the perfect fit for these handmade frames. In combination, a Starling Cycle with Middleburn chainrings and cranks are a stunning example of British Engineering.

Our Middleburn cranks were first developed in 1991 and since then have been adjusted, innovated, and refined into the spectacular components they are today. All Middleburn components are designed and manufactured here in the UK, Stoke-on-Trent using high quality 7075 T6 aluminium, hot forged and CNC machined into shape.

Every single Middleburn crank is then hand polished and inspected closely for flaws by knowledgeable eyes, then anodised. Whichever crank your bike requires, they all receive this same five-star treatment.
